History

Our history

I always wanted to run a company. I liked taking decisions, getting involved, accepting challenges, and ultimately, applying imagination, creativity, and planning. I knew it was time once I turned 40 years old.

I came across Lenny one day. I’d met him years earlier when we were entering a trade fair, and it didn’t take long for both of us to realise that we shared the same goal. That’s when DC Fine Chemicals started to incubate.

A second informal meeting in a delightful gastropub in the English countryside north of London was enough to confirm that we were on the same wavelength and to settle on the project. The definitive push came with the answer to the following question, “What do you want to get out of this adventure? Enjoy the work and look after our customers”

Josep Maria Cortés

Managing Director

The company was incorporated on 21 May 2007 and we opened for business 1 September 2007. Initially we had no systems and it was necessary to figure out what to do with each new situation that came our way: how to deal with an order, how to import goods, where should the goods be stored and packed, etc. The first major improvement, recommended by Juli, was the installation of an ERP system suitable for the pharmaceutical industry, called Blending. This immediately helped us to structure our processes.

The first few months were difficult, but we had support from friends in the industry, many of whom are still customers today, who sent us some orders. After one of our key contacts qualified a collection of products at the end of 2008 it was clear that the business would thrive. In fact, it has grown every year since we began.

For the first few years logistics and packing were done in third party warehouses managed remotely by DC Fine Chemicals personnel. In 2014 the business had grown to the point that it could finance its next major improvement, its own premises. A 1000 m2 warehouse and office facility was rented and optimised for the packing and storage operation.

Managing Director

We had serious doubts about whether we could fill our current facilities at first, with the warehouse practically empty at that time. However, not only have we filled them in the subsequent 5-6 year period, we now need larger facilities.

We have some very ambitious plans for the future and we hope that we can repeat the experience by needing more space after another 5-6 years because of the company’s continued fast growth.

On balance, this definitely wouldn’t have been possible without our collaborators, old friends from other companies, like Ramón Cassasas or Jaume Puigdengolas, and other current active collaborators.

We feel tremendously proud. Thank you very much.
